Persuasion Lab presents a study about 'political ads', exploring the making of political subjects at the hands of the algorithm.

Through segmentation and targeting based on data and algorithmic bidding, Facebook chooses for each person one advertisement amongst millions. The business of digital advertisement not only focuses our attention into the political advertisement most 'optimal' for each moment and for each person, but also excludes encounters with advertisements that are considered inadecuate for our eyes.

In this study, we offer a rare opportunity of what a shared perception of reality can offer. In the context of the Thai general election of 2023, we visualise together all the different political advertisements that are shown during a day to the people of Thailand, together with its targeting data.
